Healthy Alternatives For Chocolate Lovers
According to the Good Housekeeping Institute, the 52 percent of women who eat chocolate every day have some fewer-calorie options to enjoy during the holidays.
Luna Minis are less than half the size of a regular Luna bar and smaller than many other chocolate bars, according to dietician Samantha Cassetty. The bars contain only 80 calories.
And for a mature twist on chocolate-covered raisins, Cassetty recommends Kopali organic dark chocolate covered goji berries. Each berry has four calories.
"So you can eat half the package for just 120 calories," Cassetty said. "Just be sure not to eat the whole thing."
And, of course, Cassetty said to eat the darkest chocolate you will enjoy. The darker the chocolate, the higher the concentration of flavanols, beneficial compounds that slow the process of mental decline that comes with aging.
Also, maintain healthier eating habits at holiday parties by following a few easy tips. First, skip the nuts. Nuts pack calories but add little to meals. Second, chew gum. It will help keep you from the snack tray. And last, eat meals at regular intervals throughout the day to avoid overeating at night.
