Partnership brings taste of success
A FAVOUR is leading to sweet success for a Clydesdale confectionary business.
As government bodies and industry leaders push for fresh and innovative collaboration between Scotland's Twin Cities, two small businesses are leading by example.
They're doing everyone a favour by creating a really sweet partnership.
Edinburgh handmade card and craft retailer Card Kit Company and Lesmahagow-based confectionary enterprise Granny Jackson's have joined forces to produce distinctly Scottish favour boxes.
Jamie Wallace, founder of Granny Jackson's, supplies traditional Scottish favourites such as home-made butter tablet and Saltire rock in the flavour of Scotland's other national soft drink and hangover cure, to fill individual gift boxes designed and handmade by Marie-Claire Warren, owner of Card Kit Company.
With a blend of traditional clan tartans and contemporary styles, the duo aim to capitalise on the current international interest in ancestral heritage and family roots.
In preparation for high-profile events such as The Gathering in 2009, the pair are taking their products on a road-test this summer for a Tartan Tour of Scottish outdoor events.
Granny Jackson's solo fling on the Highland gatherings and Summer fayre circuit last year proved a hit with customers and organisers.
But Jamie hopes this new partnership will be the icing on the cake.
Marie-Claire and Jamie met several months ago at Glasgow Elevator Business Networking, run by the Princes Scottish Youth Business Trust.
They are now regular delegates of the Edinburgh Elevator Business Networking since the inauguration of the organisation in March.
Marie-Claire said: "Teaming up with Jamie really has been a win-win for both companies.
"Jamie can now offer decorated favour boxes to go with his sweets and I can offer my customers a wide selection of quality Scottish sweets to fill their favour boxes."
In a surprise twist of fate, Jamie is now also in direct competition with Marie-Claire's husband Ben in the innovation initiative, supported by Scottish Enterprise in a collaborative attempt to forge new partnerships between Edinburgh and Glasgow tourism sectors.
As rising stars, Jamie and Ben's teams are being coached and mentored by experienced leaders in the industry in their bid to develop creative concepts which will attract and retain new visitors to both cities.
With a F3000 cash prize and industry backing to bring the winning project to the attention of the market, both parties are hopeful of success.
