Sweets for the sweet dads at annual festival
Dads will be able to get their fill of strawberry shortcake at the Strawberry Festival to be held on Father's Day, June 15, from noon to 4 p.m. at Assonet Four Corners.
"New this year will be the Shriners clowns to entertain the crowds," said organizer Nancy Van Nostrand.
In honor of Father's Day, dads will be eligible for a free drawing for PawSox and Providence Bruins tickets. There will also be a library book sale, which Ms. Van Nostrand says is always a big hit. Fresh strawberry shortcake will be served throughout the festival.
"I would like to mention Kanaki and Sons of Freetown for ordering the strawberries and giving us a generous price," Ms. Van Nostrand said.
Bandstand Park has room for 30 merchandise tables. Those interested in selling can call (508) 644-5374.
Unlike the past few years, a portion of the festival will not be at Hathaway Park.
"We just couldn't get people to walk to the other park, probably because they couldn't see it from Bandstand Park," Ms. Van Nostrand said.
The Strawberry Festival, an Assonet tradition for 21 years, is sponsored by the Tuesday Club and the Freetown Cultural Council.
